Some of you may already be aware but for those who are not, May is National Bike Month. National Bike Month was established in 1956 and is sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists. To celebrate biking this month, May 19 is National Bike to Work Day; how about going for a ride? To support this initiative, we will be sharing with you some tips to get you ready to bike to work.
Familiarize yourself with Bike PGH. These guys have all of the information you need for biking around Pittsburgh. From education to bike routes to tips and advocacy opportunities, they should be your go-to for up-to-date biking info.
Use #BikeMonth, #BikeToWork, and #BikePGH on social media to let your friends know you will be participating in Bike to Work Day 2017. Share your resources with them to help them prep for their ride to work too.
Today, whether you bike to work every day or this is your first time, pack your things, plan your route, and bike to work!
After work, visit our friends at Over The Bar in the Southside. They are a sponsor for our #FundTheTruck campaign, which is raising money for The Greater Washington County Food Bank. They have a great bicycle-themed menu and specialty cocktails. Treat yourself and meet other bikers after a long day of biking and working.
Now what if biking to work isn’t realistic for you, but you’d still like to participate? Remember, it is National Bike MONTH. You have plenty of time left to ride your bike this month, to the store, park, or a friend’s house. Check out Bike PGH’s event page to get involved. You can also donate, become a member, or learn about advocacy and volunteer opportunities.
